  End-to-End Rate Control in Heterogeneous Mobile Networks异构移动网络中的端到端速率控制

 摘要:

Rate control is of crucial importance to the stability and fairness of any large shared networks. For a best-effort network such as the IP-based Internet, it has to be implemented in a distributed fashion that relies on the communication parties to be self-regulative according to their observation on the network conditions. However, traditional rate control algorithms developped for fixed networks are no longer up for the job in the emerging heterogeneous mobile networking environment, where networks of different types converge into the same IP core and interconnect with each other. New issues will arise when user of an active conversation switches his point of connection, as the diversion of the data flow and the abrupt changes in the conditions of the underlying networks are not foreseen by the old transport protocols. New adaptation techniques are required to either extend these protocols with mobility support or develop new protocols suitable for the mobile environment. On the other hand, diversed network technologies and emerging new services also bring new thought to the design principles of transport protocols. It might be more benificial to decouple rate control from other transport functionalities and have a solution flexible enough to cope with the dynamics in the networks than separate protocols for every envisioned new service and/or networking technology. In this talk we will discuss the mobility solutions for rate control adaptation and a new modular methodology for transport protocol development.

在任何一个大型共享网络中,速率控制对于网络的稳定性和公平性都起着至关重要的作用。在以基于IP的因特网为代表的尽力传输的网络中,速率控制只能是分布式的。他将依赖于各通信实体对网络状况的了解和基于这种了解的自我约束。然而随着不同类型的网络融合到IP平台并互相联接,传统的用于固定网的传输层协议将不再适应这种新的异构的移动网络环境。当通信者在通话过程中改变接入点,传统的速率控制将产生问题,因为它们无法处理移动性导致的数据流重定向和下层网络条件的急剧变化。为了解决这个问题,我们需要新的移动适应性技术,要么用来扩展传统协议,要么用来开发新的协议。在另一方面,异构的网络结构和新服务类型的不断产生需要我们重新思考传输协议的设计方法。与其为每一种新服务或是新网络技术的引入开发相应的协议,将速率控制以及其他传输层功能各自独立出来可能是一个更好的方案,这样可以更灵活的处理网络中的各种需求。在这次报告中我们将讨论速率控制的移动性适应方案以及模块化的传输控制协议开发方法。
